David Fruchter
David was born in Montclair New Jersey. He dropped out of high school at16 to attend the new school of social research where he studied logic and the films of Ingmar Bergman. Later he took a figure drawing course taught by Milton Glazer (I Love NY, psychedelic Bob Dylan poster, and DC comics logo )at the art students league. He became interested in painting and decided to experiment with it after reading a book on the life of Jackson Pollock.
He joined the Navy at 18 and was stationed in San Diego where he acclimated well to the California lifestyle. In San Diego, he attended cooking school. While in San Diego he developed an interest in photography utilizing the darkroom facilities at the Naval base.
His service to our country was cut short due to his federally funded sabbatical for distributing LSD. He was incarcerated in an honor camp in the Sierra Madre Mountains. His intake evaluation stated that, under the influence of LSD, he had delusions of grandeur and frequented the company of artists, musicians, and other social misfits He’s a street performer, talented musician, mixed media artist, and painter.
His interest in creating art was rekindled while serving a two-year sentence in prison for a marijuana conspiracy. While on pretrial probation. He started experimenting and building original light sculptures. While serving his time, he remained constructive and developed a unique technique using mailing labels, and created a series of art pieces that have sold for thousands of dollars.
He has always been obsessed and fascinated with things that bring joy to the eye. He currently lives and works in the California high desert in the area known as Sky Harbor in Yucca Valley.
